Members course update. May 16th, 2012

Dear members,
We will open 18 holes on Østmork this coming Saturday the 19th, as was planned. Unfortunately -because of the cold weather we have been experiencing, the germination of the seed that was sewn on the greens suffering from winter kill has not been as I had hoped, and certainly far from the good results we experienced last spring.
Because of this the decision has been made to turf the damaged areas. This process will cause some complications with playing on the putting greens, but our goal shall be to try as much as possible to allow play over 18 holes to continue until the turf is ready to play on. Our usual turf supplier in Sweden has had similar challenges to us in terms of the cold weather and therefore cannot give us a product at this point in time wich is of the quality we desire. This has meant that we have had to find and use a source of turfgrass in Austria. I believe this will give us the best quality possible.
The holes which will have turfing work will be Østmork 3,4,5,9,17 & 18. Number 9 shall be closed and replaced by number 19 until it is ready. The other greens will be kept open and the new turf shall be roped off to prevent traffic from golfers affecting its establishment. It is possible that while installing work is being undertaken, some greens will be taken out of play briefly and a temporary green on the fairway will be utilised. If the weather is good I hope we can be open the newly turfed areas 2 weeks after the date of instalment.
Work on excavating the bunkers has stopped today. 19 bunkers on Østmork have been excavated and at present 10 have had the concrete liner installed. The concreting will continue until it is finished which will be early next week. The process will continue in the spring of 2013.
The tees which experienced winter kill are recovering well and I hope to have some of those back in play soon. The practice/putting greens suffered quite badly from winter damage as I’m sure many of you have seen. We will persist with seed on these greens and try our best to get them open as soon as possible.
I hope everybody has an enjoyable national day and I shall have a course update for you again next week

Regards

Alex Cawley
